Speaker Bios

Dr. Mark Thomas Marciano
Dr. Mark Marciano graduated from Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in 1998, receiving the Chancellor’s Award for Academic and Clinical excellence and the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2015. He completed a residency in ocular disease and currently serves as an Adjunct Professor at Nova Southeastern University, providing clinical training for 4th year optometry students.
Dr. Marciano was President of the Florida Optometric Association in 2022-2023. He currently serves as a volunteer with the American Optometric Association State Government Relations Committee and Legislative committee with the Florida Optometric Association.
Outside of his role within the profession of optometry, Dr. Marciano served as an elected member of the city council in the city of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, serving as its mayor from 2019-2020. He completed his second and final term in April 2023. Dr. Marciano volunteers on the Palm Beach County Health Care District Finance and Audit Committee and serves on the board of the local Chamber of Commerce. Along with his wife, Dr. Brandee Marciano, they own and operate a two-location private practice in West Palm Beach and Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. They are the parents of two sons, Adam who recently graduated from Florida State University and Thomas, who is a Junior at FSU

Dr. M.A. Otoo
Dr. M.A. Otoo is an optometrist and public health advocate with expertise in ocular disease management and an interest in public and global health. She earned her Doctor of Optometry (OD) from The Ohio State College of Optometry and a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Otoo completed her Ocular Disease Residency at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Northern Indiana Healthcare System and has since been practicing at Williams Eye Institute in Crown Point and Hammond, IN. She manages a myriad of anterior and posterior segment diseases and cataract surgery peri-operative care. Dr. Otoo is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. She is actively involved in the National Optometry Association as well as the Vision Care section of the American Public Health Association.

Dr. Sherrol A. Reynolds
Dr. Sherrol A. Reynolds is a graduate of the University of Florida and Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry. She is a Professor of Optometry at Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry and serves as Chief of the Davie Primary Care Clinic and Director of the Retina Clinic. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and the Optometric Retina Society.
Additionally, she served as president of the National Optometric Association (NOA) from 2017 to 2021 and currently serves as past president. She was awarded the National Optometric Association Optometrist of the Year in 2013. She is the recipient of the 2021 Women in Optometry Leadership Award and the American Optometric Association (AOA) 2021 President’s Award. She is also the recipient of the inaugural 2022 American Academy of Optometry Foundation Excellence in Diversity Awareness and Education Award.
She is a planning group member of the National Eye Institute (NEI) National Eye Health Education Program (NEHEP) and currently co-chairs the Eye Health, My Health: Eye Health for African Americans. She participated in numerous events addressing diversity, inclusion, and equity (DEI) in the profession, including the SUNY Race in Optometry panel series.
Dr. Reynolds was the only optometrist who contributed to the 2022 American Diabetes Association (ADA) Compendia, which provided healthcare professionals with up-to-date information and best practices for treating diabetes and related complications.

Dr. Dana Shannon
Passionate about patient advocacy and health empowerment, Dr. Dana Shannon believes in the interconnectedness of overall health with eye well-being. Her mission is to educate and empower her patients, enabling them to make informed choices that safeguard against vision loss and promote overall wellness. Renowned for her compassionate, transparent, and holistic approach to eye care, Dr. Shannon has garnered the admiration of her patients.
Dr. Shannon attended the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee where she played Division 1 Tennis and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and a Spanish Minor. Dr. Shannon earned her Doctor of Optometry degree as a Cum Laude graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry. Dr. Shannon completed her residency in Adult and Pediatric Ocular Disease management at the University of Chicago.
Actively involved in the optometric community, Dr. Shannon serves as a Regional Trustee for the National Optometric Association. She is a distinguished member of professional organizations, including the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control, American Optometric Association, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO). Her dedication to advancing the field is evident through her recognition as a Contact Lens Institute Visionary for both 2023 and 2024, and as a national speaker for Alcon, Inc.
