Northeastern State University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position in the NSU Oklahoma College of Optometry. 

Responsibilities

This position is a combined assignment with direct patient care, clinical education duties, and didactic classroom activity. The clinical assignments will be in the NSU Oklahoma College of Optometry clinics.

Experience 

Experience in full-scope Primary Care is required. Preference will be given to applicants with advanced academic degrees, residency training, extensive clinical experience, or teaching experience.

Education Requirements 

Applicants’ qualifications must include the O.D. degree and eligibility for licensure to practice the full scope of Optometry in Oklahoma.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Salary range: Salary will be commensurate with experience. The UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See the following tables for the current salary scales for this position: Table 1, Table 2, & Table 5-2. The current base salary range for this position is $80,800–$202,700. "Off-scale" salaries, which yield compensation that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

Percent time: 20 - 100%

Anticipated start: Positions usually start in January, various times throughout the summer and August

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a pool of qualified health science clinical faculty members at the Clinical Instructor, Assistant, Associate, or Full Clinical Professor level to teach in the School of Optometry and Vision Science and/or Berkeley Optometry partner off-campus clinics, should an opening arise. The number of positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the department. The pool will remain in place for one calendar year; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must reapply.

The responsibilities of the health science clinical faculty members include teaching optometric student clinicians in the patient care environment, performing direct patient care when student clinicians are unavailable both on or off the UC Berkeley campus, and/or teaching optometric student clinicians the basics of eye examinations sequence in the pre-clinical environment. They may also perform service to the school and community through education or various outreach programs on or off the UC Berkeley campus.

Appointees will be eligible for advancement through the ranks of the Health Sciences Clinical Professor series, based on performance in teaching, professional activity, scholarly and creative activity, and service.

The Herbert Wertheim School of Optometry and Vision Science has excellent clinical facilities and a large, diverse patient population. Over 70,000 patient visits are seen annually within our on campus clinic. About 65 optometry students are graduated annually. The Department is committed to addressing the family needs of faculty, including dual career couples and single parents.

Basic qualifications(required at time of application)At the time of application candidates must have an OD, MD, DDS, DO, NP, or equivalent clinical degree from an accredited institution (or equivalent international degree).

Additional qualifications(required at time of start)Candidates must be licensed in the State of California by their respective governing board by the start date and maintain active licensure throughout their term of employment. To be eligible to work, clinic employees must comply with all UC Berkeley Optometry Clinic annual immunization and medical screening requirements, trainings, and University and School policies.

Preferred qualificationsResidency training and Clinical teaching experience are preferred but not required. We seek candidates whose experience, teaching, or community service has prepared them to work collaboratively in a diverse environment and adhere to University policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

• Assist optometrist in performing eye exams and tests
• Take patient medical history and record relevant information
• Perform preliminary tests such as visual acuity, color vision, and depth perception
• Conduct diagnostic tests such as tonometry and visual field testing
• Prepare patients for contact lens fittings and assist with contact lens insertion and removal
• Educate patients on proper eye care and contact lens hygiene

Experience:

• Previous experience as an optometric technician or in a related field preferred

The Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Science at the University of Arizona-Tucson and Banner University Medical Group is actively seeking one or more Comprehensive, Contact Lens or Pediatric Optometrists to join our growing Department. 

Position Detail:

The selected individual(s) will have a focus on specialty contact lenses, or pediatrics or comprehensive eye care, depending on training and experience. Clinical services are provided at the Banner University Medicine Ophthalmology Clinic in Tucson, with 9 half-daily clinical sessions per week. The successful candidate will possess the vision, experience, and leadership skills to establish clear departmental goals, recruit and develop faculty, and support advancement and promotion within a culture of excellence, collaboration, and accountability.

Candidates must hold a Doctor of Optometry (OD) or PhD degree and demonstrate a strong understanding of optometric education and the integration of basic and vision sciences within the professional curriculum. The ideal candidate will be able to articulate and implement strategies that connect foundational scientific knowledge to clinical application, ensuring that students are prepared for contemporary optometric practice.

Experience with curricular assessment, pedagogy, immersive learning technologies, data-informed decision-making, and academic innovation is highly desirable.

Additional graduate training (e.g., PhD, MS, MPH, MBA, or related field) is preferred. Experience in clinical or translational research is desirable and will be supported with a competitive startup package.
