Duities

  • Be able to pull vision insurance
  • Assist customers in selecting and fitting eyewear based on their prescription and personal style preferences
  • Take accurate measurements of customers’ eyes and facial features to ensure proper fit of eyeglasses (Pupillary Distance and Seg Heights)
  • Educate customers on lens options, coatings, and other enhancements to meet their visual needs
  • Adjust and repair eyewear as needed to ensure optimal comfort and functionality
  • Maintain inventory of eyewear frames, lenses, and accessories
  • Process orders for new eyewear and contact lenses
  • Keep the optical area clean and organized

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Be able to pull vision insurance
  • Assist patients in selecting and fitting eyeglasses and contact lenses based on their prescription and individual needs
  • Take accurate measurements of patients’ eyes and facial features to ensure proper fit and comfort of eyewear
  • Educate patients on proper eyewear care and maintenance
  • Adjust and repair eyeglasses as needed
  • Perform administrative tasks such as maintaining patient records and scheduling appointments
  • Collaborate with optometrists and ophthalmologists to provide comprehensive eye care services
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in eyewear fashion and technology

Experience:

  • Previous experience as an optician or in a similar role preferred
  • Knowledge of senior care and pediatric eye care practices
  • Familiarity with aseptic technique for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the optical area
  • Strong understanding of optical anatomy and physiology
  • Proficiency in medical coding
  • Experience working in a laboratory setting is a plus
  • Excellent sales skills to effectively communicate the benefits of different eyewear options to patients

We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic New York State-licensed optician with excellent people and technical skills who enjoys working in a fast-paced eyewear center. As a team staff optician, the successful candidate will interact with faculty, staff, optometric students and patients on a daily basis. Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to provide an excellent patient experience are required. Applicants must be knowledgeable of and be able to explain to patients’ proper frame selection, lens materials, and lens designs; possess exemplary fitting and adjusting skills; and have experience working with vision insurance plans. Individual must be sales savvy and aware of current trends and developments in lenses and eyewear. Must be flexible with scheduling needs of department.

Requirements:

Current New York State Opticians’ License
Ability to commit to a schedule including evenings and Saturday
Electronic medical records experience and knowledge of vision care plans

This is a New York State Civil Service position with a starting total annual salary of $52,047 and a generous benefits package. View our Benefits at a Glance.
